Terai-Madhes unrest probe commission submits report to govternment
KATHMANDU, Dec 15: A High-level Probe Commission on Terai-Madhes unrest led by former justice of the apex court Girish Chandra Lal on Friday has submitted its report to the government.
The commission was formed to find the facts to interrogate and collect complaints on the killings during the Madhes and Tharuhat uprisings.
The Commission prepared the report taking stock the incidents of killing, vandalism, arson and human rights violations in course of the agitations in Madhes and Tharuhat following the promulgation of the new Constitution.
The 709-page report has been handed over to the government, said Prime Minister’s Private Secretary Badri Prasad Tiwari. While receiving the report, PM Sher Bahadur Deuba thanked the commission for submission of the assigned tasks. He further assured to take ahead the process to implement the report.
Similarly, the commission chair Lal had briefed the procedure followed during the preparation of the report. He also extended gratefulness to the government for allocating the responsibly to the commission.
The tenure of the committee – formed on 18 September 2016 –was extended three times in the past. RSS
