Govt to award Rs 1 lakh each to wheelchair cricketers

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The government of Nepal has decided to award NRS 100,000 each to the members of Nepal’s wheelchair cricket team for winning the 1st Wheelchair Cricket Championship.

A meeting of the council of ministers held on Thursday decided to provide the prize money to the 14 members of the team, told Minister for Youth and Sports Rajan Kumar KC to Rishi Dhamala.

Reporters’ Club Nepal’s President Dhamala shared that he had requested Minister KC to felicitate each wheelchair cricketers with 1 lakh rupees.

KC, after deciding to reward the cricketers, had telephoned Dhamala and shared the news. “Dhamala ji I have decided to reward the wheelchair cricketers as you suggested,” he told Dhamala.

The Wheelchair Cricket Association also expressed gratitude to the government’s decision of felicitate the players.

Nepal had defeated Bangladesh by 54 runs in the final to win the tournament held at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur from December 14-16. A total of four teams including two from Nepal and one each from Bangladesh and India had participated in the tournament.

The tournament was organized by the Wheelchair Cricket Association Nepal (WCAN) in co-ordination of Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation.
