EC writes to six parties asking to resend PR list

National Assembly election

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday has written to the six political parties asking the correct the list of candidates selected for the Proportional Representation category of Province Assembly.

The EC wrote to Nepali Congress, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Rastrya Prajatantra Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manch to submit the revised list citing that the six parties have failed to meet the requirements of the directives on Proportional Representation Elections to Province Assemblies while selecting candidates from closed list.

Other parties’ list does not need correction, according the EC.

The EC has asked the parties to submit the revised list before January 4.

“The parties’ list does not fulfill the legal requirements. The list is altered, not inclusive. Male candidates have been inserted in place of females. There are many other problems and has not ensured representation as guided by the directive,” said EC Spokesperson Dinesh Ghimire.

According to Clause 35 (4) of the directive, if any party doesn’t submit the corrected list by ensuring representation as guided by the directive, no candidate will be elected from the party.

“If the parties fail to comply with the law again, the parties will face legal action,” said Ghimire.
