KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The left alliance has urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to carry out constitutional and legal works necessary for handing over the government.

Prime Minister Dueba had called the meeting of the major five parties at his residence in Baluwatar seeking consensus on fixing temporary capitals of seven provinces and appointment of provincial chiefs and regarding National Assembly election.

Left alliance leaders during the meeting had drawn serious attention of the meeting over delay of transferring the power to the left alliance as per the people’s mandate and urged Deuba to carry out necessary home works it needed to do for handing over the government expeditiously.

Since no any concrete suggestion on the issues of fixing province capitals and appointing provincial chiefs were served, the government will now take decision itself after carrying out home works.

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said they apprised the government to respect the public mandate expressed through the election and that any delay from its side in handing over the power would not be tolerable for them. He also urged the government to take all constitutional and legal decision including fixing province capitals, appointing province chiefs and announcing National Assembly Election date.

Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandar Paudel, taking to journalists after the meeting, said that the government will assign the temporary capitals of the provinces and the province chiefs after necessary home work to that connection.

Poudel further said that the government will fix the date for the National Assembly Election after consulting with the Election Commission.

Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav, during a meeting with PM Deuba, had suggested the PM to conduct the National Assembly election of February 8.

Meanwhile, PM Deuba at the meeting, stating that the EC has proposed Feb 8 for election, said that he would discuss with the EC prior to announcing date.

UML vice-chairman Bhim Rawal, who attended the meeting said that the left alliance leaders also warned Deuba to desist from taking decision that would have long-term impact and promotion and transfer of civil servants.

Rawal also accused the government of putting pressure on the Election Commission to stop announcing the full election results.

The meeting was attended by Nepali Congress president and PM Deuba, senior leader Poudel, general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala; Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; NC leaders Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar and Krishna Prasad Sitaula; UML vice-chairman Rawal and leaders Subas Nembang, deputy secretary general Bishnu Poudel and Agni Kharel; Maoist Centre leaders Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’; Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum leader Rajendra Shrestha and the presidium member of the Rastriya Janata Party, Rajendra Mahato, among other leaders.
