KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Dr Govinda Parajuli has rejected the charge of contempt of court brought against him and has reiterated that Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli is corrupt and mafia don—the statement he had used at the press conference organized before starting his hunger strike.

During a hearing at the bench of justices Purushottam Bhandari and Bam Kumar Shrestha, Senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and medical education reform activist KC said that he was using his right to freedom of expression while rejecting the court’s contempt filed against him.

Dr KC was arrested from his fast-unto-death site at Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj on Monday after the Supreme Court initiated contempt action against him. He was on his 14th hunger strike demanding resignation of Parajuli.

The hearing is underway.

Dr KC on Tuesday, while recording his statement at the Supreme Court, had also rejected the contempt charge and had accused CJ Parajuli of defying the dignity of judiciary.

To justify his accusation, Dr KC had accused Parajuli of misleading the judiciary and giving space to corruption by deciding the cases in favor of Chudamani Sharma, Gopal Khadka and Ncell.

He had also blamed Parajuli of possessing two certificates with different date of births with the intention to stay in office longer. He also questioned Parajuli if he bore any real School Leaving Certificates and called for disclosure of original documents.

Parajuli was also accused assuming his position at the court illegally, acquitting former CIAA Lokman Singh Karki for the appointment of a relative as legal advisor at the anti graft body, giving millions of tax waiver to five-star hotels operating casinos, favoring Nahakul Subedi by giving him three major promotions within six months and having connection with medical mafia. Dr KC had demanded a probe against CJ Parajuli.
