Unification Coordination Committee approves 70-30 power sharing deal

BHAKTAPUR, Feb 1: The party unification coordination committee of the CPN-UML and Maoist Center has approved the decision on power sharing for the provincial assemblies.

A meeting of the committee held at UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence on Thursday nodded the report furnished by the two-party taskforce, UML Vice Chairman and coordinator of the taskforce Bamdev Gautam said after the meeting.

The taskforce has agreed to allocate vital seats on the proportion of 70-30 to UML and Maoist Center. As per the approval, UML would get chief ministers and speakers in four provinces while Maoist Centre would get chief ministers and speakers in two provinces.

However, the leaders have concluded that exercises were still insufficient regarding the party unification.

After the meeting, Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the top leadership would hold discussions on two/three phases regarding the party unification and a taskforce would be formed thereafter.

Likewise, the leaders of the two parties have agreed to hold talks with visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj by making basis to the common mandate obtained by the left alliance.

During the meeting, the chairmen of both the parties had briefed the meeting of the party unification.

UML Chairman Oli, Gautam, leaders Ishwor Pokharel, Surendra Pandey and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, leaders Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Barsha Man Pun and others were present at the meeting. RSS
