First assembly meetings of Province 2, 5, 6 and 7 conclude

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: The first province assembly meetings of Province 2, 5, 6 and 7 have concluded on Sunday. The meetings were held at the respective temporary headquarters of provinces.

Province 2 held its first assembly meeting at the Education Training Center in Janakpurdham. The meeting set February 14 as the date for election of Speaker. The meeting was chaired by senior-most member Lagan Lal Chaudhary. The meeting was halted as soon as it started after the lawmakers of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal had protested demanding to place photos of martyrs in the meeting hall. The meeting resumed after the lawmakers agreed to put the photos in the next meeting, which is summoned on February 12.

Province 5 has also concluded its first meeting at the meeting hall of Butwal chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The meeting was chaired by senior-most member Baldev Sharma Pokhrel. The meeting has formed a five-member committee, consisting of senior-most member Pokharel, CPN-UML’s Kamal Raj Shrestha, CPN (Maoist Center)’s Dadhi Ram Neupane, Nepali Congress’ Asta Bhuja Pathak and Rastriya Janamorcha’s Tara GC to run the parliamentary assembly in the absence of Speaker. The assembly has called next meeting on February 14.

Province 6’s first meeting was convened at the meeting hall of the office of Irrigation Division in Birendranagar, Surkhet. The meeting was chaired by senior-most member Him Bahadur Shahi. UML’s Yam Lal Kandel, Maoist Center’s Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, NC’s Jeevan Bahadur Shahi and RPP’s Soshila Shahi addressed the meeting. The meeting has also fixed February 12 as the date for the election of Speaker.

The meeting of Province 7 also concluded today. The meeting was held at the meeting hall of District Coordination Committee Kailali. The meeting has set elections for Speaker and deputy speakers on February 14. Senior-most member Dibyashwori Shah chaired the first meeting.

Province 3 has already held its first assembly meeting last week whereas Province 1 and 4 will hold its meeting on Monday.
