EC to announce PR seats today
KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The Election Commission is preparing to formally announce the number of seats won by the political parties under the Proportional Representation system in the House of Representatives election.
Despite pressure from left alliance and even after announcing the poll results under the first-past-the-post category, the EC had not announced the PR poll results citing constitutional hurdles—constitution provisions 33 percent women’s representatives in the federal parliament.
And, with the upper house election successfully concluded on Wednesday, the EC is announcing PR seats today. The EC will write to the political parties asking to submit the names of candidates from closed list fulfilling allocated quota for women, janajatis, madhesis, dalits and others groups, according to EC Spokes person Nawaraj Dhakal.
Of the total 110 seats under PR category, CPN-UML has secured 41 seats, Nepali Congress has won 40 seats, CPN (Maoist Center) has got 17 seats and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has 6 seats each, according to sources.
