Chairman of Everest Hotel arrested on drug smuggling charge

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Metropolitan Police, Tekuk have arrested the chairman of Everest Hotel, Mashkoor Ahmad Lari in connection with a 21-year old drug smuggling case.

Lari, who was on the run, was arrested from Maharjgunj at around 12:00 pm today on charge of drug smuggling, according to AIG Jaya Bahadur Chand.

A police investigation had found Lari’s involvement in smuggling of 250 kg of hashish that was seized from Frankfurt airport, Germany in 1997.

Preparations are underway to present him in the Supreme Court today itself, said Deputy Inspector General Ganesh KC.
