PM Deuba inaugurates Chameliya Hydropower project

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has inaugurated Chameliya Hydropower project, a national pride project based at Balanch, Shailya Shikhar Municipality-1, Darchula amid a ceremony on Saturday.

Chameliya Hydel Project has an installed capacity 30 megawatt, and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 16 billion jointly funded by the government of Nepal Republic of Korea through Economic Development Corporation fund. China’s Gezhouba Group Corporation had been overseeing the construction of the project initiated 11 years ago with a target-cost of Rs 8.34 billion

The hydel project will produce 184.2 million units of power annually and will make an annual income of Rs 1.10 billion a year.

PM Deuba, inaugurating the project expressed his hope that the 30MW project will not only transform the livelihood of the region but also boost national economy.

“I am delighted to inaugurate Chameliya Hydroelectric Project today. This 30MW project will not only transform the lives and livelihood of the Far West, but it will also boost our economy,” tweeted Deuba.

The project has already added 15 MW power to the national transmission line from January 12.
