Parliament members to take oath from Mahantha Thakur
KATHMANDU, March 4: The newly elected members of the House of Representatives will be taking oath of office and secrecy from fellow MP Mahantha Thakur.
The 75-year-old will be doing the honors after fellow party leader Mahendra Raya Yadav informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat that he will not be able make it to the oath taking ceremony. Going by the citizenship certificate, Yadav is elder than Thakur.
Yadav declined to administer oath to members of HoR due to his two dates of birth, sources confirmed.
Thakur, who is also the coordinator of the RJP presidium will first take oath of office and secrecy from President Bidya Devi Bhandari at a function to be held at the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas today. As per regulations, the eldest member of the parliament chairs the meeting until the election of the Speaker is held.
The maiden meeting of the Federal Parliament is being held tomorrow. And the oath ceremony of members of both the houses—the HoR and National Assembly is taking place today, according to Secretariat Spokesperson Dr Bharat Raj Gautam. RSS
