Biplav-Maoist must abide by law: Chief Minister Rai
KATHMANDU, March 10: Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai on Saturday urged CPN-Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ to abide by the constitution.
“The government is very serious in implementing good governance, controlling crime and eradicating corruption. Thus, Biplav-Maoist has no choice but to surrender to the law,” said Chief Minister Rai at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Kapilvastu Police last month issued a notice in the name of Biplav directing him to appear before the Bhojpur District Court within 70 days. Various complaints have been lodged at the District Court against Chand-led outfit for his alleged involvement in violent activities including bomb explosions during the local elections.
He also said the government of province 1 was fully alert and committed to controlling crime and maintaining good governance and peace in the province.
Rai, stating that Province 1 had unveiled its priorities in a function earlier, expressed his commitment to develop the province exploring the full potential of the region.
“The country has already headed into federalism and toward the progress, development and economic prosperity. Province 1 has much potential in view of tourism, water and natural resources and so on. By exploring these, Province 1 can be much developed.”
“We will make our province a model and much developed province,” Rai added.
Rai also said that the capital of the province will be declared very soon.
“We will decide on capital of province before allocating budget. Probably, the capital will be finalized by mid-June, and will be decided by the two-third majority.”
Biratnagar has been declared as the temporary capital of Province 1.
