Deuba highlights opposition’s role to strengthen democracy
KATHMANDU, March 14: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the role of opposition in the parliament is significant for strengthening democracy.
Speaking at an orientation program organized by the party for Federal Parliament and Province Assembly members in the capital on Wednesday, he expressed hope that party’s presence in the parliament as the main opposition would be more effective than in the government.
The NC that had been fighting for democracy in the country since 1950 now got the responsibility of doing its role as the opposition in the Federal Parliament and Province Assembly and thus institutionalizing and strengthening federal democratic republic system, he said.
Party senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala who also addressed the program stressed the need of a responsible and effective role of the party as the opposition in the parliament to further consolidate democracy.
A total of 189 members representing the party in the Federal Parliament and State Assembly were present in the day-long orientation. RSS
