Late Koirala’s role on Nepali politics remembered
KATHMANDU, March 21: Political leaders have said that late Girija Prasad Koirala’s role in Nepali politics is unforgettable in establishment of Federal Republic of Nepal.
During a program organized on the 8th Memorial Day of late Koirala in the capital on Wednesday, the speakers remembered Koirala as a heroic figure who was the commander of the people’s movement II.
Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal reminded, “If Girija Prasad Koirala had not agreed for republic, the country could not have got republic so early. It would have cost a lot for us.”
Leader Nepal further said that late GP Koirala was of the view that political progression was possible if the Nepali Congress and UML worked together. With this conclusion, Koirala stood against monarchy, he added.
Economic transformation was yet to be realized as per Nepalis’ aspiration, he said, adding that major change was still awaited despite the political change in Nepal.
On the occasion, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula commented that present government’s initial days were not positive. Arrogance cannot lead the country to right track, he argued.
He reminded leader Koirala as the most powerful political figure of his time in Nepali history.
Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha observed that country could not progress until the corruption was wiped out.
Former finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said the late Koirala was the courageous leader who ensured peace process in Nepal through 12-point agreement.
Former minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan said the republic movement in Nepal was initiated after leader Koirala announced that he would stop favoring the king. RSS
