Crowd-pleaser humanoid robot addresses tech conference in Ktm
KATHMANDU, March 21: Sophia the humanoid robot addressed a huge technology conference in Nepal on Wednesday. The world’s most advanced AI robot gave a speech at the conference as part of a program being organized by the United Nations as part of its Sustainable Development Goals.
Addressing a workshop in Kathmandu, Sophia spoke on the theme of Technology for Public Services, something the first non-human champion for innovation knows first hand. And if the thought of a robot doing a better job than you at public speaking isn’t terrifying enough for you, it turns out Sophia is also a real crowd pleaser.
She opened a Q&A session with a joke comparing the conference host to famous Nepalese actor Anmol KC, which got a big laugh from the audience. The robot then went on to say she would be the first non-human to climb Mount Everest. The aim of the conference on Kathmandu was to help Nepal find ways to better use technology and innovation for advancing development.
Sophia told the conference that Artificial Intelligence could be used to improve the education sector, develop medicine and help connect remote areas of Nepal to its cities. She added that Nepal has been gradually developing in the technological sector that will help the overall development of the country still recovering from the aftermath of the devastating 2015 earthquake. She welcomed the people gathered to see her with a warm ‘Namastey’ and thanked the people for their presence with a ‘Dhanyabad’.
A spokesman said: ‘The conference brings together speakers and participants representing central, provincial and local governments, the private sector, civil society, youth, academia and the media, allowing them an opportunity to learn and share ideas, experiences and lessons on technology for development’ Earlier this year it became evident that Sophia is here to take over the world when she got into a public spat with Chrissy Teigen.
After a month-long grudge with the model – who shaded her for her make-up skills – Sophia got her revenge at major tech trade show CES. ‘It looks like we’re both at #CES!’ Sophia tweeted. ‘Want to meet up and say hi? I need some makeup tips. Sophia made headlines this year when she became the first robot in the world to be given citizenship of a country – Saudi Arabia. Soon afterwards, she announced to the world that after observing human families, she wanted a baby.
