KATHMANDU, March 23: The central working committee meeting of the Nepali Congress begun Friday to review the national atmosphere following the election witnessed severe reprimand to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

While putting forth their views on the reasons behind party’s debacle in the elections, the leaders accused President Deuba of harbouring faulty working style.

In the very beginning of the meeting, former secretary generals of the party, Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula argued that the work style President Deuba adopted was the main reason behind party’s defeat.

Leader Singh put forth an 8-page long suggestion and proposal, claiming that electoral drubbing was a historic disgrace to the Nepali Congress.

“Deuba’s agreement with CPN (Maoist Center) and his role to ensure victory to Maoist Chairman’s daughter in Chitwan, power-centric politics, sheer political deviation in the party, failure to speak against India’s blockade, not proving the relevance of constitution amendment, ill effort to impeach then Chief Justice, not giving full shape to party department and committee, among others led the party to this sorry state,” leader Singh asserted.

Similarly, leader Sitaula reiterated that the party leadership made a blunder while sharing power after the promulgation of the constitution. In the name of making Maoist Centre’s Chairman happy, the cancellation of ticket to youth leader Dinesh Koirala in Chitwan election resulted in a severe negative psychological impact on party leaders and cadres.

According to him the party failed to make massive publicity of the achievements as federalism, inclusive democracy and republic during the elections. Party’s policy and practice gap was widening, he worried, demanding immediate general convention of the party or the mahasamiti meeting.

Leader Narayan Khadka however argued that party’s defeat could be understood with the points that the CPN-UML took advantage of Indian blockade, thereby garnering public confidence with slogan of nationalism, electoral alliance of two communist parties and the intraparty betrayal. RSS
