Republic day celebration main committee formed

KATHMANDU, May 18: A Main Celebration Committee to mark the Republic Day has been formed under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The meeting held Thursday at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singh Durbar has decided to mark the Republic Day May 28 (Jestha 15) by organizing various programs for three days from May 28 to 30 in the country and the diplomatic missions abroad.

The committee comprises acting chief justice of the Supreme Court Deepak Raj Joshi, Speaker at the parliament Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina, former President, former Vice President, Ministers, and former Prime Ministers among other VIPs.

Similarly, the meeting has formed a publicity sub-committee under the convenorship of Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Banskota. The sub-committee comprises secretary at the Ministry, National News Agency (RSS) general manager, Nepal Television chair, Gorkhapatra Corporation chair, Radio Nepal Executive Director among other mediapersons.

Likewise, ground, parade and procession management sub-committee has been formed under the convenorship of chief district officer of Kathmandu district. Similarly another sub-committee to manage the dash decoration and management was formed under the convenorship of Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor.

The meeting has further appealed the media to cover the republic related news and issue special collection covering republic features. Similarly, the meeting has appealed to light the candles in the evening of the same day.

Likewise, the Nepal Army will organize the various worshiping programs in temples, monasteries as well since early morning in the Republican day.

The main committee members, political party leaders, players, and common people will attend the program in Tundikhel in the same day. Likewise, President, vice-president among other VIPs will attend the same program in Tundikhel.

Similarly, various programs will be organized to mark the Republic Day from May 28 – 30 outside the Kathmandu valley.

Addressing the meeting, PM Oli said the Republic set up was mandatory in a ‘real democracy’. He urged to celebrate Republic Day – the day when people became sovereign – in a grand fashion and with exultation. He added that the day should be marked from people’s level.

He also directed the concerned sides to mark the day from the peoples’ side rather governmental and official one. Prime Minister Oli also opined to include the former King also in the program.

The PM stressed on need to take the Republic Day to people’s level and to new generation. He termed the ‘Royal Institution’ based on the ideology of ‘Supremacy by Birth’ as against social justice and equality. He also suggested the Ex-king Gyanendra not to follow such traditional practice as some forces were evoking the ex-king saying he was the incarnation of lord Bishnu.

Prime Minister Oli also said that he was ready to talk to such so called scholars who believed that king was the incarnation of god as it was just false belief and feudal thinking.
