Education Minister demands 20 per cent budget for education sector
KATHMANDU, May 23: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokharel, has said that he will take initiative to increase budget in education sector.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by the Community School Management Committee Federation of Nepal on Wednesday, as per the international standard, 20 per cent budget, out of total budget, should be allocated towards education sector and the government was active regarding how to make it possible.
Minister Pokharel urged the bodies concerned to take initiative with Prime Minister and Finance Minister in this regard.
A delegation led by Federation Chairperson Krishna Thapa put forth various demands including allocation of 20 per cent budget in education sector by central, province and local government, at least 60 percent representation of guardians at School Management Committee and brining result-based program to reform quality of community schools.
