PM promises an end to food poverty within few years
HETAUDA, June 4: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has assured of ending the situation of food poverty in the country by the next few years.
In his special address to the State Assembly of Province 3 in Hetauda Monday, the Prime Minister declared that no Nepalis would have to face the situation of food deprivation after few years.
He promised to work in proactive and effective ways to address the issue of food poverty in the country. “The situation of seeking help of others to address the basic needs of people will be completely eliminated.”
The Prime Minister went on to say that no inappropriate compromises would be made with the neighbors. “The government is committed towards the protection of nationality, territorial integrity and national sovereignty.”
He declared that the government would take country to the height of economic prosperity by the next five years, making the people happy.
On the occasion, he directed province lawmakers to work keeping the people at the center. The Prime Minister took the time to make a pledge for eradicating illiteracy from the country in the coming days. “Though it may sound unbelievable, but it will happen.”
The Prime Minister further underlined the need of eliminating corruption from the nation to see good governance. As he said, an end to corruption was the first condition to have good governance and rule of law. He announced to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
He expressed his concern over growing culture of consumerism in the country. Though domestic production was sufficient to address the people basic needs to some extent provided that it was properly managed, increasing consumerism was there behind ballooning trade deficit in the country, he claimed, stressing the need of promoting local production by the province governments.
He was of the view of discouraging the culture of indulging in junk foods and cold drinks. “The country has the potentiality of good production of vegetables and fruits and their exports.”
He said that the government was committed to reopening the Hetauda Textile Industry that has remained closed for years. As he said, the government plans to manage required equipment for reviving the industry and give the responsibility of its management to the private sector. RSS
