335 Nepali migrant workers are imprisoned abroad: Minister Gyawali

KATHMANDU, June 27: As many as 335 Nepali migrant workers are serving term in prison in 20 different countries, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali.

Minister Gyawali shared the information at a meeting of the House of Representatives held on Tuesday. He further said that “of the total 335, the highest number of Nepali migrant workers serving jail term is in Saudi Arabia”.

According to him about 217 Nepalis are in Saudi jail.

Similarly, 63 Nepalis are imprisoned in United Arab Emirates, 39 in Thailand, nine in Bahrain, four in Singapore, three in China, two each in Israel and Oman and one each in Cambodia and Lebanon.

He further shared that 20 Nepali migrant workers are in the state of coma at different hospitals in foreign countries. Of them, 11 are in different hospitals of Qatar, five in Saudi Arabia, and two each in Bahrain and United Arab Emirates.
