Over half dozen settlements in Sunsari submerged
INARUWA, SUNSARI, July 6: Over half a dozen villages in Sunsari have been flooded. Rains have swollen local rivers that have advanced and submerged riverside the settlements, displacing scores of families.
At least 120 houses have been deluged at Harinagar Rural Municipality-2, 4 and 7, said local resident Abdul Kaiyum Khan. A Dalit settlement has been flooded at Bhokraha Rural Municipality-7.
Hundreds of thousands worth of agricultural products, construction materials and other property have been destroyed in the disaster, locals said. Vegetable farming on the river banks has been destroyed. Sixty sacks of cement and other construction materials deposited to construct a building were swept away, said Aiyub Miya, a local contractor.
Flooding caused by continuous rains obstructed the local road that links the Harinagara-Basantapur road. Children in the locality are finding it difficulty to appear in the examinations of school level as a result, said parents. District Police Office, Sunsari, said they are yet to collect details of loss caused by flooding.
