Minister Tamang to step down
KATHMANDU, July 24: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sher Bahadur Tamang is preparing to resign from his post on Tuesday.
He made the decision following similar directives from the party leadership. Minister Tamang had landed in controversy following his statement that Nepali female medical students that have been studying in Bangladesh.
His statement had received a lot of criticism from political leaders, members of civil society and social media activist.
Tamang had later apologized for his sexist remarks clarifying that his intention was to show the problem faced by Nepali students and to protect the women’s honor.
The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has directed minister Tamang to resign from his post. According to a party source, minister Tamang is scheduled to resign at 2 pm today by organizing a press meet at the ministry.
