Death toll in Jajarkot landslide reaches nine
JAJARKOT, Aug 5: The death toll in the Jajarkot landslide reached nine.
Bodied of eight children and a woman were killed after being buried in the landslip that destroyed the house of a local Tirtha Raj Bohara at Thanti bazaar of Bheri Municipality-3 this morning.
One identified as Khadga Bahadur Luhar of Gangatiya was rescued alive, said the police. Luhar, who sustained injuries in chest, head and legs, is receiving treatment at Jajarkot Hospital.
Similarly, the deceased have been identified as Luhar’s wife Shitala, 25, their three children (nine-year-old Bhabana, six-year-old Ranjana and three-year-old Manisha), and the householder Bohara’s seven-year-old daughter Nagma. The deceased had been living in Bohara’s house on rent.
Likewise, other deceased have been identifies as: Narendra Pariyar,13, Nabin Pariyar,11, Govinda Pariyar ,8, and Darshak Pariyar ,10, of Kuse rural municipality ward 5.
Rescue is facing difficulties due to rains, said Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar Basnet.
Meanwhile, Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet extended tribute to the deceased and wished quick recovery to the injured. He also directed the concerned authorities to manage prompt rescue and medical treatment for the injured.
