Nepali marathoners fail to complete course in Asian Games
KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Nepal’s two runners failed to complete the marathon held on Saturday under the 18th South Asian Games.
Krishna Bahadur Basnet and Gopichandra Parki who participated in the Jakarta-Palembang regional sports event on behalf of Nepal gave up the competition midway, the National Sports Council (NSC) said.
A total of 21 players from 13 countries started racing for the title, but Nepali players abandoned the marathon race unfinished.
Krishna quit the contest held at the Jakarta-based Bung Karno Stadium when he had yet to run a distance of two kilometers.
At the time, he was in the 12th position by spending 2 hours 13 minutes 23 seconds to complete 40 kilometers while Gopichandra quit the competition after completing 30 kilometers and at the time he was in the 19th position.
