Japan provides grant for disaster risk reduction in Chitwan



Kathmandu, Nov 16 : Japan is to extend a grant of USD 419,859 (approximately Rs 43 million 900 thousand) to strengthen community resilience towards disasters. 

The grant assistance also further aims to strengthen the Disaster Risk Reduction Project being operated in Chitwan district in the country.

The Japanese government is providing the assistance through a Japan-based international NGO named Shapla Neer.

An agreement paper relating to the project was signed and exchanged between Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masamichi Saigo and Shapla Neer’s Country Representative for Nepal, Hiromi Kaitsu, at the Japanese Embassy to Nepal today.
Rural Reconstruction Nepal, a Nepali NGO partner, will implement the grant.

The grant assistance will be utilized to implement a project in both Madi Municipality, a flood-prone area, and previously named Lothar VDC, a landslide-prone area, both situated in Chitwan.
