One dead, 18 injured in Darchula road accident

Darchula, Nov. 23 : A person died while 18 others were injured in a bus accident that occurred at Malikarjun in Darchula district early this morning.

Anil Pal, 45, of Askot in Uttarakhand, India died in the incident while his wife has sustained injuries, according to the District Police Office, Darchula. Condition of the seven injured persons is critical. 

The bus (Ma 1 Kha 436) coming to the district headquarters in Khalanga from Malikarjun Temple met with the accident at 4:45 this morning after falling 300 meters off the road.

A large number of pilgrims who paid homage to the Malikarjun Temple last night were returning home in the ill-fated bus. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nabaraj Adhikari said that the injured are rushed to the Gokuleshwor Hospital for medical treatment.

The injured are identified as Laxmi Kunwar, 28, Daulat Kunwar, 25, Ram Singh Basnet, 33, Janaki Basnet and Naresh Bohara, 32, of Lekam Rural Municipality. Other injured are Bhupendra Singh Dhami, 15, Ganesh Singh Dhami, Nagendra Panta, Laxman Panta, 13, Gopal Singh Dhami, 35, Chandra Panta, 24, and Hirendra Dhami, 30, of Malikarjun Rural Municipality and Mangal Mahata, 25, of Api Himal Rural Municipality, according to Police Inspector Hikmat Bahadur Bohara.
