Kathmandu, Nov 27 : Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has called on the government to immediately revise laws and acts contravening with the constitution.

In his address to an inaugural session of the one-day seminar organised by the National Assembly Legislation Management Committee here today, the Speaker said 200 laws were in need of the amendment as they were contradictory to the country’s main law.

Mahara said, “Time demands the amendment of such laws as soon as possible.”

Also speaking on the occasion, National Assembly chair Ganesh Timilisina said 124 laws formulated following the promulgation of the constitution and 339 existing laws need to be revised.

Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal insisted on the need of timely formulation and revisions of the laws for their effective enforcement.

According to Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel, a law had to complete 18-20 steps in the process to get its final shape and broader study was essential to determine the utility of the laws before the formulation. RSS
