Civic rights are at risk when government is weak: CM Pokhrel

Rupandehi, Dec 12 : Chief Minister of Province-5 government, Shankar Pokhrel, has said the people are empowered if the government were stronger. 

Addressing a workshop seminar on the role of province government and lawmakers in the implementation of the fundamental rights, organized by the Province 5 government and the National Human Rights Commission here today, he said the people can fully exercise their fundamental rights only when the government is strong.

“We do not get results by making the state weak. Let everyone mull over as to how the government could be made stronger for ensuring the fundamental rights,” he stressed. Chief Minister Pokhrel added that organized gangs tend to overpower the citizens when the government is weak thereby leading to restrictions on the civic rights.

He reiterated that the country was now headed towards development and prosperity and it was necessary to link with the human rights.

Stating that the Province government was working steadfastly so that the people get the results of development, he said in this connection the government has brought a programme of providing land to the landless.

Province minister for law Kul Prasad KC said the Province government would work vigorously for implementing the laws.
NHRC commissioner Govinda Sharma Poudel stressed that the governments at all the three levels should be serious when it came to protecting the citizens’ rights.

Advocates Mohan Lal Bajracharya and Tej Prasad Kandel had presented working papers in the seminar. RSS
