Chhau custom a social evil: NHRC Spokesperson Ansari

Dullu, Dec 20 : Spokesperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mohana Ansari, has said the chhau custom is a social evil.

During a programme NHRC organized on study of chhau custom here Thursday, Spokesperson Ansari underscored the need to abandon the social psychology that promote this evil custom. She urged the political representatives to involve in the campaign to eradicate violence against women.

On the occasion, chief attorney of Karnali Province, Bidya Bhushan Manandhar, shared the legal provision that anyone forcing the menstruating women and girls to stay in shed being excluded from family is fined Rs 3,000 and jailed for three months.

Expert on gender equity Bharati Silwal, Joint Secretary at the National Women Commission, Yuvraj Subedi, and others pointed out the need of strong cooperation and coordination among all sides to end violence against women. (RSS)
