Biodiversity loss, a threat to human existence: President Bhandari
Chitwan, Dec 26 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said loss of biodiversity would pose a threat to the entire human existence.
Inaugurating the 15th Chitwan Elephant Festival amidst a ceremony today, the President called for all-side efforts to save biodiversity from the impact of climate change.
“The entire human existence will come under threat if we fail to conserve biodiversity,” said the President insisting on the need for keeping the natural resources safe for the future generation..
“It will be never justifiable to harm the wildlife and nature, and it will cause a threat to biodiversity in the name of addressing people’s unlimited desires.” Flowing rivers here have a significant role in conserving the Chitwan National Park’s biodiversity, the President said, calling for further protection and promotion of sites on the Ramsar site list.
She was of the view of promoting the domestic tourism through the development of eco-friendly infrastructure in the context when the government had already announced the year 2020 as the Nepal Visit Year.
According to the Head-of-the State, the sustainable development of eco-tourism is essential, and production of educational human resources accordingly is necessary. The President further expressed her full confidence that the tourism industry could contribute to the government efforts at fulfilling the commitments of a prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel and Ratnanagar municipality mayor Narayan Ban were also present on the occasion. The festival will run until December 30. RSS
