Making agriculture commercial challenging: Prez Bhandari
Damak, Jan 2 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said it was one of the challenges before the State to make agriculture commercial and employment-oriented.
During an inspection of the agricultural activities promoted by the Namuna Cooperatives Farming and Small Farmers Development Campaign in Gauradaha municipality-5 on Wednesday, President Bhandari expressed worry that agriculture was still subsistence farming. Only commercialization of agriculture could create employments to youths, she argued.
The Head of the State underscored the need that government put the cooperatives in top priority to alleviate poverty. “All sides concerned should work in unison to ensure country’s prosperity through cooperatives.
She lauded the activities conducted by the Maharanijhoda Small Farmers Agriculture Cooperatives which has promoted cooperatives campaigns uniting the women in Jhapa district. On the occasion, President Bhandari was given a civic felicitation.
Chief Minister of Province 1 Sherdhan Rai said once the agriculture was commercialized, it would prop up industrialization.
He shared that the Province has given priority to this regard. Similarly, Province Minister for International Affairs and Law, Hikmat Karki, viewed that only transformation and modernization of agriculture could help guarantee economic prosperity. (RSS)
