Investment must for tourism promotion: Leader Nepal



Kathmandu, Jan 11 : Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has said all should be active for the tourism promotion, one of the significant bases of country’s economic prosperity.

Inaugurating a programme organised on the seventh anniversary of the gantabyanepalnews.com here Friday, former Prime Minister Nepal said there should be active role of the bodies concerned for the tourism promotion. It would however not be possible without investment and hard work, he added.

He said the tourism sector of the country has not been able to achieve expected benefits even after having immense potential. Partnership between government and private sectors should be made effective in tourism infrastructure sand heritages development, the former Prime Minister suggested.

Arrival of 1.2 million foreign tourists in Nepal in 2018 is still less, he said, adding that number of tourists could be increased in the country if the constructions of the Gautam Buddha International Airport, and Pokhara Regional International Airport were expedited; the Tribhuvan International Airport upgraded and the Kathmandu Valley developed as a beautiful city.

On the occasion, Director General of Department of Tourism, Danduraj Ghimire, also underscored the need to promote tourism in a commercial manner by expanding the quality services.

At the programme, various journalists including President of the Reporters’ Club Nepal, Mr. Rishi Raj Dhamala, were honoured for their contributions to the promotion and development of tourism through journalism.

The former Prime Minister provided the letter of felicitation to the journalists. Similarly, Tourism Life Time Achievement Award was conferred on tourism entrepreneur Khum Bahadur Subedi and Thamel Award Chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Council, Samir Gurung. RSS
