Kami Rita scales Everest for record 24th time

KATHMANDU, May 21: Just a week after breaking his own record for most summits on Mt Everest, Kami Rita Sherpa has yet achieved another feat by successfully scaling the world’s highest peak for the record 24th time.

Sherpa stood on the top of the peak at 6:38 am today, confirmed Gyanedra Shrestha, contact officer at the base camp.

The 49-year-old senior mountain guide first climbed Everest on May 13, 1994. He has also climbed K2, Lhotse and Manaslu one time each and Cho Oyu 8 times.

Sherpa has announced he will retire only after climbing the Everest for 25 times.

Appa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa, who has ascended the peak for 21 times, have already retired.

Sherpa hails from Thame village of Solukhumbhu district.
