Cartoons poke fun at Media Council Bill

Media Council Bill, Cartoons against Media Council Bill

The Federation of Nepali Journalists organized a cartoon exhibition in Kathmandu on Wednesday as a protest against the Media Council Bill introduced by the government–which aims to replace the existing Press Council Act with more authority and impose huge penalties against the journalists and allow the government to completely control the media watch dog body.

Journalists and information rights activists have protested against the controversial bill saying it is against the democratic norms and the spirit of the constitution which aims at curtailing full press freedom guaranteed by the constitution. The Bill is currently under consideration in the parliament.

Here are some cartoons from the exhibition that carries the voice of opposition against the media bill and restriction of press freedom and expression.
