Controversial ‘Mata’ remanded to custody for a week

KATHMANDU, June 30: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has remanded controversial Bishnu Kunwar aka Dharti Mata in custody for a week.

Kunwar, a self-proclaimed goddess (Mata), was arrested from Balaju on Friday after a video content went viral on social media which showed Kunwar torturing a young girl in the name of exorcising evil spirit from her at Bhadrakali temple premises.

A permanent resident of Lekhanpath, Kalikanagar of Butwal sub-metropolitan city, Kunwar was summoned by the police for interrogation after the video provoked a public outcry.

According to the police, Kunwar has accepted her mistake but has been insisting that she possesses superpowers.

The police had also asked the victim to file a legal case against Kunwar for torturing her. However, the victim has not filed a complaint against her, which according to the police, could weaken the case.

Since no witchcraft case has been filed yet, the police are preparing to charge her for disrespectful behavior for the want to evidence, according to Onlinekhabar.
