Banks resume ATM service



KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The banks which closed their ATM service citing ‘hacking’ have resumed their operation.

Earlier in the morning, ATMs of a dozen banks including NIC Asia, Prabhu, Sunrise, Machhapuchhre, Siddhartha, Prime Commercial, Global IME, Janata banks had gone non-operational after a group of hackers hacked into the collective system of Nepal Electronic Payment System Limited.

The system related to the Visa card was hacked, according to Chief of the Metropolitan Police Range SSP Uttam Raj Subedi.

However, the ATMs of Prabhu Bank and NIC Asia Bank are yet to resume their service. Some technical issues of the two banks are yet to be solved, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.

But the inter-bank ATM transactions are currently halted, said Global IME Bank CEO Mahesh Sharma Dhakal.
