Five Chinese nationals held on charge of ATM theft made public

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu has made public the five Chinese nationals who were arrested on the charge of stealing money from various ATMs in the capital.

One of them was caught red-handed from the Nabil Bank ATM booth at midnight on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off given by him, the police apprehended four others from a hotel in Durbarmarg. They have been identified as Chen Wen Wen, 35, Liu Liyang Ang, 32, Qu YanYin, 30, Liu Jialing, 29 and Lin Jinming 29.

Police have confiscated Rs 12.6 million and US dollar over 9,000 from them.

The Nepal Rastra Bank has reported a loss of Rs 16.85 million from the banking system. But the public’s deposit is safe, according to the bank.

According to the police, the arrestees were preparing to leave Nepal on Sunday.

Further investigation is underway, said the police.
