Mahara presented before court

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who is under police custody for investigation into attempt-to-rape charges, has been presented before the court on Tuesday.

Mahara was taken to the Kathmandu District Court from Norvic International Hospital, where he was admitted on Friday after he complained of chest pain.

Mahara was arrested on October 6 from his official residence in Baluwatar after parliament staffer Roshani Shahi accused him of sexually assaulting her at her apartment in Tinkune.

Mahara resigned from his post a day later on the moral ground to “felicitate the investigation”.

The police are also preparing to conduct a DNA test on Mahara to confirm whether the broken glass and shoe insole recovered from Shahi’s apartment belonged to him, according to reports.
