Tsunami warning after a magnitude 7.4 quake hits Maluku islands in Indonesia



INDONESIA, Nov 15: A 7.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Indonesia’s the Maluku Islands.

Tsunami alert followed the quake which hit Sulawesi and Halmahera in Maluku. The risk of the dangerous waves reaching the land was however said to be minimal.

A local Indah Lengkong from the port city of Bitung said ” people had initially panicked. The house was visibly shaking. The quake was very strong and lasted for a while. We can still feel tremors but weaker” he said.

The US Geological Survey measured the tremor at 83 miles (134km) from the port city of Ternate at a depth of 30 miles (45km).
