At home, Regmi says elections on time

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Interim Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has claimed that the proposed Constituent Assembly elections will be held on Novemeber 19.

Speaking to journalist upon his return from New York, where he had participated in the United Nations General Assembly, Regmi said that there are no circumstances that would avert the elections from being held on the said date.

Elaborating on his meetings with UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon and Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh, Regmi said that the meetings dwelled on Nepal’s effort to hold fair and free CA elections and Nepal’s view on pressing global affairs.

He said that the Indian premier Man Mohan Singh had stressed on the need to work closely for development, peace and prosperity, and realisation of mutual benefits for the people of both the countries by controlling the menace of terrorism, reducing poverty and creating more job opportunities.

On a different note, Regmi ruled out his resignation from his post as Chairman of the Interim Council of Ministers or as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as demanded by the agitating 33 party alliance led by the CPN Maoist.

“The process that had been started will continue. There will be no change,” he said.
