Two Nepali students killed in car crash in Australia
KATHMANDU, July 28: At least two Nepali students have been killed when a car carrying five people left the road and rolled near Rose Valley Road, Bunyan along the Monaro Highway in southern New South Wales near Cooma in Australia on Sunday morning. Three others were injured in the car crash.
The crash victims have been identified as Samikshya Subedi, 22 and Gopal Bhandari, who is believed to be in his 20s.
Subedi in the back seat was thrown meters from the car after it clipped a small tree and rolled and slid about 160 meters while Bhandari in the front seat also died at the scene, reported ABC News Australia.
Two other 19-year-old male passengers were able to free themselves from the car and call for help, before being taken to Cooma Hospital for treatment.
One of the passengers and the 22-year-old male driver were flown to Canberra Hospital with head injuries.
Queanbeyan Police Inspector Sandy Green said the survivors were “exceptionally lucky”, reported ABC.
“It’s quite a mystery that the driver and two people survived that horrendous crash,” she told ABC.
“This is horrendous and yet on the scene today I could not tell you how many times I had to tell people to slow down, to wear their seatbelts, as they were coming through a crime scene.”
One of the people involved in the crash is from Sydney, it further reported.
Forensic officers are investigating the cause of the crash and it is not yet known if charges will be laid against the driver.
