SC issues interim order against promotion of na colonels

KATHMANDU: Giving a preliminary order in favor of the dissenting army officers, Nepal’s Supreme Court on Monday gave a stay order against the recent promotion of Lieutenant Colonels of Nepal Army (NA) to the post of Colonel.

A single bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal handed down such order and called both the sides on Thursday for discussions.

The order comes in response to the writ petition filed by eight Lieutenant Colonels against the decision of the NA to promote 16 of their fellow officers to the post of Colonel by the NA promotion committee on March 25.

The petitioners have argued before the court that the promotion was against the Army Service Regulations, which was amended recently and against the interim constitution.
