SUNSARI: Duhabi bazaar in Sunsari district remained tensed throughout the day today due to police interference to the locals who had staged protests yesterday by demanding action against the murderer of a local woman.
The locals came out to the streets calling for action against the murderers of Radha Mandal, a local who was murdered 27 days ago.
Police resorted to lathi charge and lobbed tear gas shells to bring the crowd under control after the protestors vandalized vehicles including ambulance.
Bijaya Chaudhary, 25, and Jalil Raina, 55, of Duhabi-8 had sustained serious bullet injuries in the police firing on Sunday.
Raina has returned home after receiving treatment at the Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital while Chaudhary has been sent to Siligudhi for further treatment from the B P Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
Security situation has been beefed up after the demonstrations.
However, the agitating locals are learnt to have postponed the protest after the administration’s call for talks.
It is said that Kamat was murdered by local Iphran Miya and her lover Sabnam Khatun.
A probe panel has been formed under the Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari on Sunday.
