Bird Flu sends 4500 chickens to gallows in Bhaktapur
BHAKTAPUR: Chickens detected with bird flu in Himal Poultry Breeding Farm at Sipadole-9 are being culled on Saturday morning.
According to the Livestock Service Directorate, Tripureswor, they are culling 4,500 chickens being reared at the poultry farm of Prabhat Paskhala.
Technical teams from the Livestock Directorate, Tripureswor and Bhaktapur Livestock Service Office have been deputed to cull infected chickens.
After the poultry farm of Paskhala saw demise of 400 to 500 chickens every day since July third week, the District Livestock Service Office undertook monitoring of the situation and sent some samples of chickens for test to Central Animal Disease Research Lap, Tripureswor on July 23, said Dr Bijaya Kanta Jha of the lab.
Meanwhile, Broiler Chicken Quarantine Check Post, Ramnagar has taken under control 6,500 broiler chickens being taken to Makawanpur from India via Rupandehi.
Based on the tip off of poultry entrepreneurs that chickens were being transported in a vehicle Na 2 Cha 7455, the vehicle carrying chickens was taken control from Pulchowk of Narayangarh.
The chickens were culled on the premises of District Livestock Service Office, Bharatpur this morning, said Vice-president of Nepal Federation of Poultry Entrepreneurs Tikaram Pokharel.
