Nepal Medical Council all set for elections

KATHMANDU: Election for the office-bearers including one vice-chairman and eight members of the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) is to be started in Kathmandu valley from tomorrow.

The election will take place till September 1 and the central office of the NMC at Bansbari in Kathmandu is the voting centre.

Election has been already held out of the Kathmandu valley.

There is a provision that chairman and other eight members would be nominated by the government as per the Act of the Council. The Council is a body regulating the medical sector.

Five doctors for one vice-chairman and 20 doctors for eight members are in the election fray.

Over 13,000 doctors have been registered in the council so far, said Council Chairman Prof. Dr. Damodar Gajurel.

Those medical persons completing their MBBS and MD studies should pass the exam conducted by the Council for the license.

Now, 21 medical colleges have been teaching medical science in the country.
