Congress condemns attacks against its leaders, poll campaigns

Katmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) has strongly condemned the series of attacks against the NC leaders and CA election campaigning programmes of the party across the country. Organising a press conference today at the NC party headquarter Sanepa in Lalitpur today, NC has also demanded action against the guilty of the attacks by the UCPN (Maoist) and other unknown groups.
During the press conference, coordinator of the NC Election Mobilisation Coordination Committee, Dr Minendra Rijal, said that the force that wants to foil the election and take the election under its control are inflicting violent activities across the nation in the run-up to the election. He said that the attack against him and his cadres in Gorkha by the UCPN (Maoist) cadres yesterday reflected a defeated psyche of the latter.
Dr. Rijal warned the UCPN (Maoist) to come openly if they prefer war and come peacefully if they were for CA election.
Noting that the violent activities could repeat in the days to come, he urged the government to remain alert to hold CA polls on fair and fearless manner.
Earlier yesterday night, a group of unidentified persons have thrown petrol bombs at NV vice-president Ramchandra Poudel’s vehicle while its Dang-2 candidate Sushila Chaudhary’s vehicle was also torched by another group. Likewise, UCPN (Maoist ) cadres have pelted stones and attack NC leaders including Dr Rijal yesterday on the way to Batase of Gorkha district Constituency No. 1 to address a mass gathering.
Moreover, Ananda Santoshi Rai in Dhankuta Municipality Ward No. 7 in Dhankuta district on Wednesday.
