Defeated parties mull face-saving recourse
Kathmandu: Following the criticisms from various quarters for denouncing the poll results as well as immense pressure from the diplomatic community to accept the people’s mandate, UCPN (Maoist) along with some other parties, who have alleged the vote rigging and conspiracies to defeat them, are now charting out face-saving recourse. Earlier after the poll result start trickling against the expectation, UCPN (Maoist) had rushed to hold press conference announcing that it will boycott the CA accusing vote rigging a conspiracy to defeat them.
UCPN (Maoist) is holding a meeting today with other parties, who face a defeat in the polls, to plan further strategies. It is learnt that the defeated parties are discussing about the prospect of alliance to move ahead together to challenge the poll results. According to the UCPN (Maoist) source, defeated parties are also planning to pile pressure on the Election Commission (EC) to initiate probe into the alleged vote rigging. According to a leader of the UCPN (Maoist), they are going to the EC office to submit the memorandum to the EC demanding the probe into the ‘vote rigging’.
As an way-out that could also serve as a ‘face-saving’ exercise for the defeated parties, they are demanding a probe committee into what they called the vote rigging in the polls. According to the insider, UCPN (Maoist) would reverse the earlier decision to pave the way to join the CA provided that a commission is formed to look into the case. They have concluded that this committee would serve as a ‘face-saving’ move to them.
