Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC), largest party emerged from the CA polls, has intensified the internal parleys for the formation of new government and drafting a new constitution.
During its informal meeting of the Central Working Committee held yesterday, the party has concluded that it will prioritise the formation of the consensus government. It has, however, said that it could go for the majority government if efforts towards the consensus government fail to materialise. The meeting is slated to be held today also. The meeting is scheduled to dwell on the formation of the government and review its performance in the CA polls. According to a central committee member, the meeting will discuss on the efforts on the formation of the consensus government by bringing UCPN (Maoist), CPN-Maoist, Madhes centric parties and other parties on board.
It is learnt that the NC is likely to claim the leadership of the upcoming government.
Likwise, NC president Sushil Koirala is meeting second largest party CPN (UML) chairman Jhalanath Khanal and dissenting party CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya separately. The meeting is said to be a part of NC president Koirala’s efforts to forge consensus.
Koirala is likely to seek UML’s support for the formation of NC-led government. Similiarly, NC president Koirala will request Baidya to give up the protest programmes for drafting new consensus, assuring the latter that constitution will be drafted based on the consensus.
