Congress begins selection of lawmakers under PR
Lalitpur: Nepali Congress (NC) has begun the selection process of its lawmakers under the proportional representative (PR) electoral system from Friday.
A meeting of the NC parliamentary committee held at the party central office in Sanepa discussed the criteria for the selection of the lawmakers under the PR electoral system, party vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel said after the meeting.
Poudel said that those contributing for the party’s cause for long, playing crucial role to emerge the party victorious in the polls, honest and disciplined candidates would be accorded top priority while picking up under the PR electoral system.
The meeting also discussed the recent political situation developed after the elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA). The meeting also thanked the country people, Election Commission, national and international organizations and bodies for helping conduct the CA polls successfully. Likewise, the NC has urged all political parties to respect the people’s verdict given by the people.
Poudel said that the party has expressed deep grief over demise of South African leader Nelson Mandela.
NC would move ahead with the spirit of consensus and coordination by taking all parties into confidence, Poudel said.
