‘We accept people’s mandate’: Sapkota

Kathmandu: Spokesperson of the UCPN (Maoist), Agni Sapkota, has said that his party would accept the people’s mandate though the result of the election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) was unexpected.
Speaking at a face-to-face interaction programme organised by Reporters Club Nepal in capital today, Sapkota said that they would accept the result of the Constituent Assembly whatever it came and move ahead in the days ahead by self-criticizing.
At a programme organised here today, he said that the CA election held on November 19 was an open platform where they could review it and move ahead by sensing the people’s sentiments.
The UCPN (Maoist), which was the largest party in the first CA, has become the third largest party in the second CA election.
The UCPN (Maoist) has been demanding investigation saying rigging had taken place in the election and saying it would not participate in CA until a probe committee was formed. Responding to a query, Sapkota said that his party would participate in the CA if probe committee formed and past achievements owned up.
Similarly, Sunil Thapa of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party urged the largest parties to pay the first attention in constitution writing after bringing small parties into confidence.
Thapa expressed the view that largest parties should not make unnecessary dispute on the issue of the President and Vice-president as the election has given no mandate to holding new election of the President and Vice-President.
Likewise, Chairman of the Rastriya Janamorcha, Chitra Bahadur KC, said that it was necessary to discard the lust for power and urged to pay first attention in constitution writing.  Nepal Pariwar Dal Chairman, Eknath Dhakal, said that largest parties should pay attention in constitution writing by bringing fringe parties into confidence.
